SoCO Forthcoming Project
Kirikiri (male and female wings) and Ikoyi Prisons, Nigeria, 2011.
At the Kirikiri Prisons at Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria, the team ran a soup kitchen for all female inmates. Cooked food was provided in abundance for the day as the inmates were blessed with the word of God. Several inmates received cash donations toward treatment for cervical cancer; other inmates received cash donations to pay for upcoming medical examinations as well as transportation to examination centres. Other inmates received cash sums toward transportation to court hearings and for their other needs. Notably, Pastor Benedicta Olagunju worked alongside a solicitor to provide free legal advice to the inmates. She held one-to-one counselling sessions with all those who requested this service. She also offered prayers on behalf of them all and continues to do so.
During a return visit to the Kirikiri Prisons in 2011/12 Pastor Olagunju, on behalf of SoCCO, swiftly attended to the urgent requests of the inmates by supplying essential toiletries and beverages, daily devotionals and bibles to approximately 174 female inmates. Much-needed items for inmates’ babies were also provided. A cash donation was made to eight inmates whose families had not been in touch with them for some time. In addition, SoCCO paid an inmate’s son’s tuition fees and paid for his basic school necessities. Pastor Olagunju also partly sponsored the Praise event in the male wing of the Ikoyi prison, which took place in September 2011. She was one of the guest ministers during the Arise and Shine Revival in September 2011 where she made a cash donation as well as other gifts to the inmates.
In 2012, Pastor Benedicta Olagunju returned with the SoCCO team to the Ikoyi Prison. As is her custom, she ministered to the inmates and counselled them. She donated bottled waters, toiletries and food items as well as devotional material to all the inmates.
Pastor (Mrs) Olagunju and her team continue with their humanitarian visits to visit and minister to the inmates at Kirikiri and Ikoyi Prisons (male and female wings) until now.
