SoCO Forthcoming Project

The Clean Water Project, 2016.

SoCCO aims to focus on the provision of life’s most precious commodity – water. This will involve building fresh-water wells and boreholes in the world’s most deprived and poverty-stricken communities.

Every day, more than 2,000 children die from diarrhoea caused by unsafe drinking water. Clean water means better health; good health leads to better education and results in a better income. Access to clean water will impact especially on the lives of women and children: of the 30,000 deaths that occur every week from unsafe water and unhygienic living conditions, 90% are children under the age of five.

In Africa alone, people spend 40 billion hours every year in search of water. Women and children usually bear the burden of water collection, walking miles to the nearest source. The water-source, however, is unprotected and likely to be contaminated. Women in search of water are also subjected to a greater risk of harassment and sexual assault.

The time and energy required to fetch water, together with the negative health impacts of using dirty water-sources, has a huge impact on people’s ability to work or benefit from education. With a safe water supply nearby, women are free to pursue new opportunities and improve the lives of their families.

With your support, we will be able to partner with local experts to build sustainable, community-owned water projects to ensure that each family has access to clean water.
