HOW TO OVERCOME LOW SELF-ESTEEM AND CONTROL YOUR LIFE.
Low self-esteem is a crucial part of human survival, surprisingly most people neglect it. It is something that's worth paying the most attention to.
Now let's quickly look at Gina's story…
"If there's one thing I wouldn't wish my enemy (if I had one) it would be low self-esteem.
You see, I struggled with this for so long. When I was in the University I never had friends because I thought I didn't worth becoming friends with anyone. I wouldn't talk nor ask questions in class. I dreaded being seen in public.
The funniest part is that it also happens in church, I don't stand up from my seat until the service is ended, I wouldn't even go for offering.
At that point I thought about myself as useless and hopeless and not good enough.
Long story cut short, I met a friend who was sincere to me, he told me "there's a genius inside you and you need to let the world see it."
After hearing these words from him I began to reflect and to question most of the things I believed about myself (especially the negative ones) and I was shocked that almost all of them were not true. Today I'm one of Africa's leading Mental Health Advocates."
Perhaps like Gina you've been battling with low self-esteem for a very long time, or you've thought about your life as useless and worthless. I have good news for you and the good news is that you too can get out and take charge of your life.
Here are a few tips you can do to help you;
1. RECOGNIZE YOUR POTENTIALS.
Recognizing the gifts that God has bestowed on you gives you more confidence and authority, because God's design for you is that you "Subdue" the earth. His initial design for you is not to let the world subdue you but the other way round. So, the earlier you understand this the easier it is for you to overcome low self-esteem.
2. CHALLENGE NEGATIVE BELIEFS.
Like you read about Gina, she believed so many negative things about herself that didn't allow her to live according to God's design for her life. Are they negative beliefs in your own life? If so, what are they?
The moment you begin to outline and question these beliefs you'll then realize that there's no height to which you cannot attain, you only need to trust God and believe in yourself.
3. SET HEALTHY BOUNDARIES.
I suffered this myself earlier. I found it so difficult to say No to people even when what they were asking was beyond my capacity at that moment, I would still say yes. I found myself saying YES to almost anything people were asking from me until I learned the habit of saying No to the things I can't handle at a given point and I want you to do the same.
Setting heathy boundaries frees you from unnecessary worries and loads of trouble.
Let me add that you also need the right set of people to help you, remember Gina's friend was so sincere to her and showed her what she could not see about herself, you also need such people in your life.
After all being said, I want you to reflect and sincerely think about these things that I've said and you'll be surprised the answers you'll find.
