THE UNCHANGING LOVE OF GOD

img

As Christians, we believe that the steadfast love of God is an essential aspect of His character. Throughout the Bible, we see examples of God's enduring love for His people, even in the face of their disobedience and sinfulness.

One of the most well-known passages that speaks of God's steadfast love is found in Psalm 136. This psalm is a litany of praise, with each verse beginning with the words "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever." The psalm goes on to recount the many ways in which God has shown His love for His people, from creating the heavens and the earth to delivering Israel from their enemies. The repeated refrain of "His steadfast love endures forever" is a reminder that God's love is not dependent on our actions or circumstances, but is a constant, unchanging reality.

In the New Testament, we see the ultimate expression of God's steadfast love in the person of Jesus Christ. In John 3:16, we read, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." This verse reminds us that God's love is not just a sentiment or feeling, but is a love that is willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of those He loves.

Another passage that speaks to the steadfast love of God is found in Lamentations 3:22-23. The prophet Jeremiah writes, "The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." These verses are a source of comfort and hope, even in the midst of difficult circumstances. They remind us that God's love and mercy are always available to us, no matter what we may be facing.

As Christians, we are called to reflect the steadfast love of God in our own lives. In 1 John 4:19, we read, "We love because he first loved us." Our love for others is a reflection of the love that God has shown to us, and it is through our love that others can come to know Him.

I want you to know that the steadfast love of God is a foundational truth of the Christian faith. It is a love that is unchanging, unending, and unconditional. As we meditate on the many passages in the Bible that speak of God's love, may we be filled with gratitude and awe at the depth of His love for us, and may we strive to reflect that love to others in our words and actions.

Amen!

God bless you!
